Many of us who know Terry Woyan recognize her by her positive, hard-working attitude, and smiling face. We recently caught up with Terry for find out a little more about the experiences that brought her to OVCT, and what drives her to success!
Terry worked as a secretary for 19 years, and decided she was ready for a change. She attended another local college, and after completing two years of required classes, enrolled in the nursing program there. Unfortunately, her family suffered the tragic loss of Terry’s nephew, Cason, and her whole outlook of life changed. She continued on for a while longer, but never felt comfortable at the school, especially since some of the teachers didn’t know her name.
After taking some time off, Terry saw a commercial for OVCT. “That commercial changed my life!” Terry says. She did some research on our OVCT website and felt that the Medical Office Administration Program would be a perfect fit for her.
Terry graduated in April of 2013 from the MOA program, and decided to continue on with a Business degree as well. Her favorite class as part of the MOA program was Medical Terminology. “I loved the challenge of learning all the word parts, and being able to look at a word I had never seen before and figure out what it meant.” She adds that the teacher, Kristin Scott, always made the class fun and entertaining. Her current favorite class as part of the Business Program is Accounting 2.
Her goal for this module is to maintain her 4.0 GPA. Since she started classes at OVCT in February of 2012, she is proud to have successfully maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her entire time at OVCT. What’s the secret to her success?
“It takes a lot of hard word, a lot of note-taking, and a lot of studying to be successful. You have to devote yourself to doing your best.”
Terry notes that her favorite part about being a student at OVCT is the staff:
“Everyone at OVCT is wonderful and willing to help you. The teachers are amazing! The Career Management Director, Carolyn Grimes, goes out of her way to help you find a job that will make you happy. They genuinely care about you and your success. These amazing people at OVCT are not just school staff, they are friends. Lifelong friends!”
Outside of school, Terry has been married for 26 years to her high school sweetheart, Tim. They have a 20 year old daughter, Amanda, and an 18 year old son, Jacob. Terry is proud to report that her daughter, Amanda, will be attending OVCT in the fall! She loves quilting, baking, cake decorating, tending to her Morning Glories and Black-eyed Susans, in addition to traveling to Amish Country.
