Hi! I’m Scott Rogers and I’m honored to serve as the Campus President at OVCT. Originally from Clarksburg, West Virginia, I earned my Bachelor’s degree at West Virginia University. I previously worked as a waiter, radio DJ, advertising sales representative, and as a sales representative in a retail furniture store for a few years before finding the right career path for me in career education. I served in the U.S. Army Reserve and I previously worked at colleges in Florida and West Virginia. I have been at OVCT for eighteen years now.
My interest in a career in education was strengthened while I was working in the admissions office. When I began working as an admissions representative, I was proud of our philosophy of always putting students first. I remembered as a student how difficult it was for me to get the program and career information I needed when making educational decisions for myself. I personally changed my major four times and spent years taking classes I didn’t need because no one ever sat down with me and identified what career path would be best for me. The purpose of an education should be to lead to a specific, well-defined career path. The program of study chosen should be the one that best prepares you for that path.
I chose to build my career here at OVCT because of our solid community reputation, our commitment to providing a quality, affordable education, and our focus on career-specific training in high-demand fields like Business Administration, Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Medical Office Administration, and Nursing.
The best part of my career is working with students because there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a first-generation graduate walk across that stage to receive a degree. Seeing the excitement when a student passes a national certification or licensure exam and lands that first job in their career field is truly a joyous occasion! I firmly believe that we change lives one student at a time, and that a great career is one of the components necessary for a great life. It is really no cliché that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.
If I could give one message to future students it would be this: “There will never be a better time than right now to start your education.” Don’t wait. Life moves too fast and the longer you put it off, the more time you will lose in building and furthering your career while improving the lives of your family. Here at OVCT, our graduates are our pride, and we stand ready to provide the support and assistance necessary to help you achieve your goals.
