Ciara’s role here at OVCT is to reach out to the local high schools and inform, recruit, and enroll students. She also believes that her positive attitude plays a big part in her role here. Ciara says “If someone is having a bad day my door is always open, and most everyone knows that.”
A little background information about Ciara, she graduated from Salem High School in 2008 and was unsure of where she wanted to go and what she wanted to do. Ciara took what was planned to be a year off, which then turned into four but she doesn’t regret anything. Ciara stated: “Regrets are a waste of time and if instead you take each thing that has happened to you in your life as a lesson; you will be able to learn and grow from it” She came to OVCT in 2011 to major in Business Administration. Chad Baker had a huge impact on her enrolling here and she says “a big shout out goes to him!” Ciara is very thankful and also grateful that she has been able to work beside Chad Baker (Senior Admissions Representative) and also learn from his experience. Ms. Cicogna graduated this past February from OVCT and then had the pleasure of starting the position of High School Admissions Representative in April. She stated “This position has changed my life in so many ways. It has given me the stability to stand on my own two feet and be the independent woman I always knew I would be.”
Her favorite part about this job is the rewarding feeling it gives her. She has worked many different jobs and not one has ever given her the feeling that her students do when they tell her how much she is helping them and changing their lives. Ciara didn’t have anyone to push her or keep her positive when she most needed it and that’s why it’s now her goal for everyone that she meets.
Her advice for new students would be to just keep looking forward. Ciara says “It’s hard to go back to school. It’s hard to balance everything that life throws at you but if you can keep your head up and stay focused on why you came here to begin with, you’ll get through it and come out even stronger than when you started.”
Just a few things about Ms. Ciara Cicogna. She says “I LOVE music. It doesn’t matter where I’m at or how I’m feeling, there is a song that describes it perfectly.” She also loves to hula-hoop, “some may say it’s silly but do it for 20 minutes and it’s a great work out”, she says! She is a huge animal lover and she has two fur-babies…Monie who is a 3 year old terrier mix, and Milo who is a 4 month old shepherd mix (picture). Ciara says that her little brother is her best friend and she would do anything for him (picture). Ciara enjoys making other people happy. She noted, “Everyone is on their own journey in life, make your presence and memory last a lifetime!”
