With a smile on his face he walks through the halls of OVCT offering a friendly hello or singing a tune or two to anyone that looks in his direction. That is Mr. Ream, the I.T. Coordinator and computer instructor on campus. “Every day I walk through the doors of OVCT, I’m walking into my dream job! I remember being in 5th grade and they asked me what I wanted to be when I got older, I told them two things, a father and a teacher. I have achieved both of those things!”
Like many OVCT students, Mr. Ream wasn’t a “typical” college student. He started at the age of 32 pursuing his degree in the computer field. “I was tired of going to work and feeling like what I was doing wasn’t making a difference. I knew I had to change something!” And that’s what he did. He started classes in January of 2011, and never looked back. Mr. Ream said, “I loved computers and I loved the students, staff and faculty here at OVCT. I remember telling Donna Juszczak that they were going to have to physically remove me because I wasn’t going anywhere! I wanted to stay here at OVCT!”
Mr. Ream tries to bring a relaxed attitude to the classroom. “I remember being a student and constantly worrying about every little thing. But I always had instructors that made learning fun, and that’s the type of instructor I wanted to be.” Mr. Ream’s time in the classrooms of OVCT really helped prepare him for the role.
When asked about being a part of the OVCT team Mr. Ream’s face instantly lit up. “I’ve never been a part of such a great group of people all focused on one goal. Everyone works extremely hard from the instructors all the way up to the Campus President. Were all focused on making sure our students leave here with not just a degree but a career they can be proud of.”
Outside of the classroom Mr. Ream loves spending time with what he calls his “reasons for breathing” his son Kobi and his daughter Gabriella. He enjoys going to Kobi’s football games as Kobi is a member of the Beaver Local Middle school Beavers, as well as watching a good comedy movie with his son. He loves watching cartoons with his daughter as well as attending many Tea Parties hosted by Gabi. The three of them are also Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Pirates and Ohio State Buckeyes fans, and Mr. Ream said they will be heading to Berea, Ohio this summer for the Browns training camp.
As for the future, Mr. Ream is heading back to school to obtain his bachelor’s degree in I.T. Management. He says, “Life is all about growth. I tell my students, never stop learning! If you don’t know something, look it up, share the information, but never stop learning!”
